Winslow: Alexander Bug Vieta Jr. 87, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with his family by his side. He was born in Oakland on November 3, 1925 the son of Alexander and Sybil (Real) Vieta Sr. He attended Oakland schools, earning his GED from Williams High School. Alexander was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, serving as Naval personal who were armed guards aboard merchant ships in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. He was a member and past commander of the Ernest A. Rutter Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Decker-Simmons Post American Legion in Oakland. Alex was employed by the Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland and then as a Steel Fabricator for Maine Cascade Iron Works in Clinton. He was an active and dedicated member of the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a NRA Hunter Safety Instructor. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn. Surviving are 2 children, Rick Vieta and wife Patty of Albion, and Pan Kriegel and husband Charlie of Winslow, a brother Edwin Vieta of Oakland, 4 grandchildren Tiffany Hinkley and husband Dale, Sarah Kilpatrick and husband Eric, Ali and Charlie Kriegel, several nieces and nephews. Alexander s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Henry Glover and the wonderful nurses at both Inland Hospital and E.M.M.C. ICU. A grave side service with military honors will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday September 11 at Lewis Cemetery Cottle Road Oakland. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
