UNITY, ME – Alfred Bridges, 80, of Unity, passed away on December 30, 2014, at Sebasticook Hospital in Pittsfield, ME. He was born in Unity, ME on November 1, 1934, the son of the late Norman and Bertha (Jones) Bridges. Alfred graduated from Freedom Academy. He worked in the canning factory in Freedom and on the family farm. He served in the Army and was later called up during the Cuban Crisis. He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and being on the family farm. He will be remembered for the compassionate and loving care he gave to his brother George who has MS. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, George and Vesta (Getchell) Bridges; his uncle, Warren Bridges; and an infant brother, Maynard Bridges. He is survived by his loving sister, Norma Butera of Hampden, ME; his brother George of Unity, ME and two very special cousins, Ramona Potter of Palermo, ME, and Chester Bessey of Utica, New York. At Alfred’s request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom, ME.
