EASTPORT, MAINE—Chris Askjem, 64, died on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine. He was born in Eastport, Maine on August 28, 1950, the son of Arne and June (Totman) Askjem. At a young age, he moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he graduated from Central High School. He had numerous jobs, built homes, and worked in the family fertilizer business for most of his life. Later Chris moved back to Eastport, Maine where he built homes and cleared land for house lots. Chris lived next door to his mom and in later years, cared for her until her death in 2014. Chris built hotrods and always had numerous cars and motorcycles. He loved going out on the ocean in his boat. He loved his dogs and helping people whenever he could. Attending church was also very important to him. Chris will be greatly missed by his brother, Eric, his sister-in-law, Tammy, and his friend, Milly, who were by his side till the end of his battle with ALS. He loved his nephew, Thomas Totman Askjem, who shared numerous interests with Chris and his niece, Erica Anne Askjem of Buxton, North Dakota. He is survived by his father, Arne Askjem of Grand Forks, North Dakota; one brother, Eric (Tammy) Askjem of Buxton, North Dakota; three sisters, Susan (Jesse) Askjem of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Lori (Joel) Johnson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Tulla Pelerine on Minneapolis, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
