Smithfield, Maine: Barbara Ann Hreben, 71, died unexpectedly August 27, 2016, at her Smithfield home.\r\n \r\nShe was born in Newark, NJ on January 16, 1945, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Sachs) Matysek. Barbara graduated from North Plainfield High School.\r\n \r\nShe was employed by Oakland IGA, Oakland Furniture, The Silent Woman, and was employed for 18 years by Buddies Groceries. She continued to work each day, she loved to see the customers who entered the store.\r\n \r\nBarbara has been a resident of Smithfield, Maine since 1971. The love of her life was her husband Steve or “Chip” as some people called him. She spent all her free time cheering on her grandchildren in baseball, softball, soccer, dance and football. She was their biggest fan. She was always thinking of everyone else and family meant the most to her. She was always saying, “I thank God every day for the family I have, I am surely blessed.” She could make your day with her beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed. Thank you to all who were so good to her.\r\n \r\nSurviving are her husband Steve Hreben of Smithfield, Maine; daughters, Michelle Hardy and fiancée Timothy Martin of Fairfield, Maine, and Brenda Holcomb and husband Michael of Dexter, Maine; sons, Mark Hreben and wife Amanda of Readfield, Maine, and Brian Hreben and wife Crystal of Oakland, Maine; grandchildren, Katelyn, David, Abbigail, Tyler, Megan, Grady, Makayla, Cody, Curtis and Cassie, brothers, Ronald Matysek of NC, and Danny Matysek of Florida; sister Joyce Bennett of PA; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nFriends are invited to visit 6-8 PM on Wednesday, August 31 at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church Street, Oakland. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1 at Notre Dame Church, Silver Street, Waterville. A reception will follow the service at Michelle’s house in Fairfield, Maine.
