Fairfield, Maine-Beverly M. Batey, 83, of Fairfield, Maine, passed away Monday evening, October 31, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus in Waterville, Maine, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Dexter, Maine on January 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Robert and Avis (Nelson) Shaw and Albert and Gertrude Ronco. She attended Dexter Schools. Beverly was employed as an inspector for many years at Keyes Fibre Company and retired from there. She then went on to open and run Grandma's Gift Shop in Fairfield, Maine. She married Robert C. Batey on January 12, 1946. They were happily married for 53 years, until his passing on April 1, 1999. We have many fond memories of time spent at their camp on Snow Pond with family and friends. Bev enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities, sporting event's and was often called upon by her grandchildren to be Gram's taxi. She was well known by many in the community as "Gram." She was an avid cross stitcher, and enjoyed doing other crafting projects. She made many things for her family, which we will cherish for years to come. She was predeceased by a half brother Richard Ronco; brothers-in-law, Merle Carr and Norman Batey; and a sister-in-law Mavis Batey. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Barry Batey and Donna of Smithfield, Maine, Deborah Pomeroy and Charlie, and Gary Batey and Cindy all of Fairfield, Maine; her sister, Marie Carr of Sidney, Maine; sister-in-law Betty Batey of Nashua, New Hampshire; and a very special brother-in-law Vernon Batey of Dexter, Maine; eight grandchildren, Barry Batey Jr., Tracy Liberty, Michael Batey, Darcy Liberty, Greg Batey, Cory Pomeroy, Danielle Batey and James Batey; two step grandchildren, Janice Thompson and Janice Coro. She also has 15 great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank her caregiver Juanita Baitler, and a special thank you to the nurses and Dr. Lanoy of the Critical Care Unit at MaineGeneral Medical Center during this difficult time. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, November 4, from 1-4pm at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street in Fairfield. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 5, at 1p.m. at Tozier Cemetery on the Green Road in Fairfield Center, Maine, with Pastor Steve Donahue officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Beverly Batey to the Humane Society Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, Maine 04901, or a charity of your choice.
