SHAWMUT, ME – Beverly Arlene Works Mayo, 85, passed away at Lakewood Continuing Care Center on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, with family by her side. She was born in Waterville, ME on January 23, 1933. The daughter of Everett and Florence Works. She attended Lawrence High School in Fairfield, ME and graduated in 1950.\r\n\r\nBeverly worked at Diamond Match Company in Oakland, Maine as well as part time at the Shawmut Post Office, filling in when needed. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Fairfield, ME where the family was known to fill one entire pew. Beverly enjoyed candlepin bowling and gained the title of Waterville’s City Champ several times as well as named to Waterville’s Candlepin Hall of Fame. She was a master cribbage player and took great pleasure winning in family card and board games. She was a great cook, specializing in holiday treats such as roasted mixed nuts, rice krispy squares, and muddy buddies in addition to her big family meals on Sundays. Beverly was often found on the sideline at the baseball field where she was known for meticulous score keeping. Her greatest accomplishment was being a wonderfully devoted wife and mother. She was a very strong and patient woman who never complained about her disease but endured it with such grace and dignity. \r\n\r\nBeverly was predeceased by her parents; her son, Jeffery Mayo; daughter-in-law, Tina Mayo; grandson, Aaron Wadleigh; brother, Everett Works Jr.; and sister-in-law, Laurina (Rina) Works.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, David J. Mayo; her eight children, Michael Mayo, Stephen Mayo and wife, Melanie, James Mayo, daughter-in-law, Genie Mayo, Corrisann Vigue and husband, Norman (Joey), Donna Fortin and husband, Robert (Bob), Timothy Mayo and wife, Karen, Mary Wadleigh and husband, Brian, Ronald Mayo and wife, Heather; her grandchildren, Robert (Robbie) Fortin and wife, Christy, Krystal Blaisdell and husband, Josh, Nicole Fortin, Ashley Johnston and husband, Mac, Krysten Mayo, Brittney Turner and husband, Ricky, Chelsea Mayo and fiancé, Jonathan Baker, Katye Mayo and fiancé, Katie Chipman, Cody Vigue and wife, Brittany, Lindsay Mayo, Casey Wadleigh and wife, Lisa, Lauren Wadleigh, Andrew Mayo, Ethan Mayo, Grace Mayo and Lucas Mayo; her great grandchildren, Aubrie Fortin and Robbie Fortin; her brother, Derwood Works and wife, Debbie; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to thank Lakewood Continuing Care Center and Beacon Hospice for their loving care and support.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maine Parkinson’s Society, 359 Perry Road, Bangor, ME 04401 in Beverly’s memory.
