Lake Lure, N.C. - Bruce Arthur Smith, 73, died January 9, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Oakland, ME. On September 28, 1941 to Arthur G. Smith and Bettina M. Smith.\r\n\r\nHe spent his early childhood in Nahant, MA., Wakefield, MA. And Webster Groves, MO. He graduated from Webster High School, The University of the South, Sewanee, TN. In 1963 and then received a law degree from Vanderbilt University. He sthen served in the U.S. Navy as First Lieutenant aboard the U.S.S. America aircraft carrier. Since then, he has resided in Washington, MO., Ft. Lauderdale, FL. And was currently residing in Lake Lure, NC. \r\n\r\nBruce wore many hats. He was a lawyer, a designer, and an artist. He was very involved in his church, and was a spiritual volunteer for Hospice and was a Eucharist Lay-minister after receiving training in theology at the University of the South in 1999. He was active in art groups wherever he lived.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his two sisters, Bettina Wilke (husband Wayne) and Barbara Urso (husband Robert), nieces Robin Harding and Angela Urso and nephew Jonathan Wilke. \r\n\r\nA graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday July 18 at the Cowan Cemetery, Cowan Ridge Road (Off Route 23/Pond Rd) in Sidney, ME with the Rev John Balicki officiating.
