Carl R. Bragg Sr., 88, of Benton, Maine passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan, Maine after a long illness with his children by his side. He was born in Vassalboro, Maine on April 10, 1922 to Fird and Edith (Kittredge) Bragg. His schooling was in the Winslow School System. His first job was farming on the Foss farm in Albion and later in life worked on equipment for George Reynolds on his farm in Winslow and Robert Browns farm in Benton. In the time between these, he worked for Hollingsworth & Whitney, Purlac Dairy and as a mechanic at area businesses. He continually worked as a woodsman throughout the years. Carl enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter and marksman. He attended turkey shoots with his good friend and brother-in-law Basil Orcutt, winning many trophies. His favorite hobby was tinkering in his shop. He was predeceased by his parents; loving wife of 68 years, Thelma Bragg; sister Ilene McPhail; brother Stanley Bragg; their oldest son, Wayne Bragg; and a granddaughter, Lisa Cunliffe. Carl is survived by their five daughters, Sandra Bragg of Standish, Joyce Patrick and husband George of Winslow, Carla Dumont and husband Glenn of Winslow, Pamela George and husband Nimer of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, and Brenda Bragg of Winslow; a son, Carl R. Bragg II of Vassalboro; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren with three more due very soon. At his request there will be no visiting hours or memorial service. A private burial will be at Brown Cemetery in the spring. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at Redington Fairview and Inland Hospitals for their care over the last six months.
