North Belgrade: Carolyn E. Alexander 91, died Monday February 20, 2012 at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, surrounded by her family. She was born in Rome on August 17, 1920 the daughter of Henry and Edith (Brann) Warren. Her life job was caring for her large family, but she also was employed for many years at Hathaway Shirt Factory in Waterville. Carolyn was a care giver for several people including Grace Watson. Active in many groups, she was a volunteer at the Muskie Center in Waterville, was a member of the Belgrade Garden Club, volunteered at the Belgrade-Rome Food Pantry, and was a K.O.P.S in T.O.P.S. Carolyn donated monthly for over 5 years to the Pine Tree Camp. She enjoyed attending church and prayer meetings and was a member of the North Belgrade Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, swimming, and walking her dog. She enjoyed trips to Florida to visit Leola and Bill Pomeroy, and especially relished a trip she took to Puerto Rico with her daughter, Diane. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Charlie Alexander, children Rosemary Alexander, and Charles Alexander. Grandchildren, Joshua Foss, Damon Alexander and Jeffrey Carey. Surviving are her children: Maxine Bouchard, Gail French, Dwight Alexander, Edith Stratton and husband Wallace, Melvin Alexander, all of Belgrade, Brian Alexander of Rome, Mike Alexander and wife Penny of Belgrade, Diane Alexander and partner Julie of Berwick, Cindy Foss of Norridgewock, Keith Alexander of Belgrade and Cory Alexander and wife Marsha of Oakland. 30 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, longtime friends Leola and Bill Pomeroy, and Terry and Jackie Tiner, many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family, many friends, neighbors and church family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Maine General Medical Center-Thayer Unit for the excellent care given to Carolyn. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday February 24 at Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church Street Oakland. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday February 25 at Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church 14 West School Street Oakland. Spring burial will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade.
