WINTHROP, Maine- Doris Rita Carter, 79, of Winthrop, Maine, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center after a lengthy illness. \r\n\r\nShe was born Doris Rita Baker on May 1, 1937, to Orrin Baker and Jennie (Maheux) Baker of Windsor, Maine. She was one of four children and spent her childhood in Windsor, Maine. She later married George Henry Carter of Whitefield, Maine.\r\n\r\nDoris taught Sunday School and in church-based clubs (AWANA, Happiness Is, etc.) for over 22 years. She dedicated her life to teaching children the Word of God and about God’s love. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles (the harder the better), creating plastic canvas crafts and gifts, and spending time with family. She looked forward to family gatherings, especially at Christmas. \r\n\r\nShe leaves behind her brother, George Baker; a daughter, Deborah Carter-Keyes and her husband, Dale; and three sons, Stephen and his wife, Yvonne, Anthony Gould and his wife, Heidi, and Michael and his wife, Jo-Ellen. Doris also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.\r\n\r\nDoris was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George Carter; and her two sisters, Virginia Wilcox and Gladys Welch.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Whitefield, Maine. After the committal at Rest Haven Cemetery in Windsor, Maine, there will be a time of conversation and celebration of Doris’ life at Calvary Bible Baptist Church.
