Emil G. Kaufmann Sr. Obituary (1920 - 2011)

ALBION, MAINE—Emil G. Kaufmann Sr., of Albion, Maine went to be with his loving wife, Norma, as he passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, Maine. He was born in Park Ridge, New Jersey on July 19, 1920, the son of the late Gustav A. and Emily (Waer) Kaufmann. Following his schooling, Emil proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. He patrolled the Mediterranean Sea during World War II on the destroyer, Mosley DE-321. He crossed the ocean seven times during his deployment. Emil married the former Norma L. Harriman on October 1, 1945 and from that time on worked together raising their seven children. The couple worked side by side in the woods, cutting wood to be sold for pulp in order to provide for their family. He was a member of the Kennebec Rock Club and a past member of the American Legion. Emil enjoyed reading and loved the ocean. Besides his parents and his beloved wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Francis Kaufmann; and his sister, Ruth Jones. Emil will be sadly missed by his children, Mary Thompson of Newport, Maine, Emil G. Kaufmann Jr. and his wife, Charlotte of Winslow, Maine, Richard Kaufmann and his wife, Melonie of Benton, Maine, Donna Furrow and her husband, Royce of Knox, Maine, Norraine Brockway and her husband, Harry of Albion, Maine, William “Billy” Kaufmann and his wife, Diane of Albion, Maine, and Jane Reardon and her husband, John Jr. of Benton, Maine; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for the care and compassion shown during Emil’s time there. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 28 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Albion, Maine.
