Sidney, Maine: Eunice B. Spooner, 77, died Sunday April 17, 2016, at her Sidney, Maine home.\r\n \r\nShe was born in New Haven, Connecticut on June 7, 1938 the daughter of Henry Hilmer and Elizabeth P. Armstrong Bucholz.\r\n \r\nEunice graduated from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Connecticut and from Colby College in Waterville, Maine Class of 1960. She earned her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono in 1978 and her C.A.S. in Math Education in 1982.\r\n \r\nShe was employed by Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York City from 1960 to 1963. Mrs. Spooner began teaching for S.A.D. #47 in 1972 and taught Kindergarten and First Grade in Oakland, Maine for 10 years, retiring in 1982.\r\n \r\nFollowing her retirement, she served over 10 years on the S.A.D #47 and R.S.U #18 School Boards and volunteered at the Atwood Elementary School. She founded the Oakland Computer Club, helping students of Oakland, Maine with computer skills for 10 years. She was one of the founders of the Oakland P.T.O. which later became the Oakland P.T.A. She was a member and Deacon of the First Congregational Church U.C.C. of Waterville, Maine. Eunice received a number of awards for her volunteer work including the Jefferson Award in 1989.\r\n \r\nA brother David Hilmer Bucholz and a sister Elizabeth Bucholz Haven died previously. \r\n\r\nSurvivors include three sons, David Berkeley Spooner and wife Carol of Marlborough, MA., Peter Armstrong Spooner and wife Lisa of Hollis, NH., and John Henry Spooner and wife Maria of Shelton, CT.; six grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin, Matthew, Emily, Sophia, and Austin; and two nieces.\r\n \r\nA celebration of her life will be Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Waterville U.C.C. Eustis Parkway Waterville. Committal services will be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery, Winthrop Street in New Haven, Connecticut.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eunice Spooner Scholarship Fund C/O R.S.U #18 41 Heath St. Oakland, Maine 04963 or to the First Congregational Church U.C.C. of Waterville, 7 Eustis Parkway, Waterville, Maine 04901.
