CLINTON, ME--Rev. George Darling died peacefully at home on June 17, 2019, after a long struggle with bone marrow cancer, his wife and daughters by his side.\r\n\r\nRev. Darling was born in Portland, Maine the son of Ernest (Jim) and Merle Darling. He was raised in S. Portland and graduated from S. Portland High School. He graduated from UMO with a BS in Forestry.\r\n\r\nSurvived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jeannette (Jan) Darling; his daughters, Crystal and Catherine Darling; son in law, Mike; granddaughter, Bethany her husband, Brett, their children, Tristan and Brysen; and one brother, Dana Darling of MO.\r\n\r\nHe was predeceased by his parents; brother Peter; and son-in-law, Frank.\r\n\r\nGeorge worked in the lumber related industry for many years. He attended Bangor Theological Seminary and graduated in 1982. His ministerial areas include: Damariscotta, ME (before seminary), Unity, ME (7 years), Kents Hill, ME (6 years), and Lisbon Falls, ME (10 years). After retiring he served in Newport, ME (5 years), Winslow, ME UCC (1 year), and Troy Union Church (5 years). He retired again in 2018 because of poor health.\r\n\r\nGeorge also served in the US Army and US Army reserve for 28 years retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel\r\n\r\nHe enjoyed gardening, planting trees and camping with Jan.\r\n\r\nIn Lieu of flowers please send donations marked In Memory of Rev. The first service will be held on July 16th at Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, 36 Church St., in Clinton at 11 a.m. The second service will be held on July 20th at Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, in South Portland at 11 a.m.
