George Patrick, Jr. Obituary (1933 - 2014)

WINSLOW, MAINE—George Patrick, Jr., of Winslow, Maine passed away at Inland Hospital in Waterville, Maine on Friday, January 31, 2014, following a short illness, with his wife by his side. He was born in Fairfield Center, Maine on May 16, 1933, the son of George and Celina (Breau) Patrick, Sr. George graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952, and he was named the best athlete coming out of Lawrence. He became property of the Milwaukee Braves minor league baseball team. He was drafted into the US Army and was trained in transportation water craft and was a harbor master while in Labrador. George was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal following his service. He was employed by Keyes Fibre in Waterville, Maine for 38 years before retiring. George was a member of the American Legion Bourque-Lanigan Post #5 in Waterville, Maine for 54 years. He was an avid golfer and realized a golfer’s dream when he registered a “hole in one” at Lakeview Golf Course, witnessed by his golfing buddies. He also loved watching all sports on television. George and his wife, Joyce shared fond memories of their many trips with family over the years to places including: Hershey Park, Nashville, Washington, DC, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, and all over the state of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Charles, Lionel, Ernest, Noel and Allard; and two sisters, Louise Bisson and Gertrude Quirion. George will be sadly missed by his wife of 30 years, Joyce (Bragg) Patrick; three step children, Julie Huard of Bradenton, Florida, Jeffrey Williams of Clinton, Maine, and Jodi Twaddell of Hermon, Maine; five grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Kayla Casey of Waterville, Maine, Brooke Casey of Bangor, Maine, Joshua and Nathan Casey of Vassalboro, Maine, and James Huard of Hermon, Maine; his brother, Arthur Patrick and his wife, Connie of Pennsylvania; his sisters, Yvette Smith of Florida, Amelia Thompson of Rhode Island, and Pauline Bujnis of Massachusetts; many beloved nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of him being a big part of their lives; a special nephew, Daniel Patrie of Winslow, Maine who cared for him as if George was his dad; his brother in law, Richard Quirion of Oakland, Maine; and his sister in law, Theresa Patrick of Waterville, Maine. George was a loving and dedicated husband, and a kind and patient step father who took wonderful care of his family. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Oak Grove Center in Waterville, Maine for the excellent, loving care he received over the last five months. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6 at the chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta, Maine. A luncheon will be held immediately following at the American Legion Post #5 in Waterville, Maine, where Joyce and George met 35 years ago, served by Joyce’s dearest friends “The Dessert Damsels”.
