Benton, ME- Geraldine N. Wheeler (Leigh) Crawford passed away peacefully at the Sussman House in Rockport, ME on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.\r\n\r\nBorn March 1, 1936, Gerry was the only child of Randall and Mable Murphy Wheeler.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her husband of 36 years, Curtis E. Crawford; daughter Wendy Leigh York of Washington, Maine; son Randy Leigh and wife, Ruth of Fairfield, ME; granddaughters, Jenny Leigh Boyden and her husband Matt of Clinton, ME, Tracy Leigh of Fairfield, ME, and Lacey and her husband Nicholas Philbrook of Matinicus Island, ME; and three great-grandchildren, Storer and Jillian Boyden of Clinton, ME and Eli Philbrook of Matinicus Island, ME.\r\n\r\nShe is also survived by four step-sons, Dale, Randy, Richard and Scott Crawford; brother-in-law, Horace Crawford of Oakland, ME; sister-in-law, Priscilla Bailey and significant other, Alton Reynolds of Unity, ME; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fletcher and husband William of Thorndike, ME; and her very dear friend, Janice B. Parlin of Fairfield, ME. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nGerry was predeceased by her parents; and her infant son, Michael.\r\n\r\nThroughout her life, Gerry worked in several retail stores; W.T. Grant, Singer Co., and Yardgoods Center before returning to the secretarial field at Atkins Printing, Unity College, CF Hathaway and Waterville Osteopathic Hospital.\r\n\r\nShe was a Seventh Degree Grange member of 45 years, holding several offices, the latest that of Ceres. Gerry was an excellent seamstress, knitter and tole painter. She also enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, the slots and was an avid snowmobiler for 30 years. She was also very fond of animals and will be especially missed by Mysty, their Pomeranian.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to thank the staff of Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice for the care, respect and dignity they provided and the support they gave the family through this difficult time.\r\n\r\nThere will be no visiting hours, instead a Celebration of Life will be held at the Benton Grange Hall on June 14, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Gerry’s memory be made to the Benton Grange, c/o Randy Leigh, 105 Ten Lots Rd., Fairfield, Maine 04937.
