CHINA-- Following a long illness with kidney disease, Harland E. Young passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 30, 2017.\r\n\r\nHarland graduated from Erskine Academy in 1956. He was employed by Central Maine Railroad and retired in 1987. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Central Lodge #45 in China. \r\n\r\nHarland and his wife of 56 years spent many years as “seasonal” at Sherwood Forest Campgrounds in New Harbor. Many friends gathered and many friendships were formed around a “shared” campfire every year.\r\n\r\nEarlier years were spent snowmobiling, hunting, and ice fishing with family and many friends. He had many stories to share on his many ice fishing trips to Chamberlain Lake. There were stories that were left at Chamberlain Lake as well and not shared we’re sure.\r\n\r\nHe was predeceased by his wife, Norma Jean (Northrup) Young; his father, Stanley T. Young; and his mother, Florence M. Young.\r\n\r\nHarland is survived by his son, Alan D. Young of China; his two daughters, Angela J. Young of Augusta, and Ann M. Young of South China; his grandson, Devin M. Young of Wisconsin; two great grandchildren, Brayden and Aaliyah of Augusta; his sister, Brenda Allen and husband, Norman of Augusta; and his niece, Lisa Naoum of Augusta.\r\n\r\nThere will be a private graveside service scheduled in the spring, followed by a celebration of Life at the family home.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the China Volunteer Fire Department.
