WATERVILLE, ME - Harold "Hank" Goodwin, 83, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015 at Inland hospital after a brief illness with Jody and Chris by his side. Hank was born in Anson Maine, the youngest child of Don and Eula Goodwin. He attended Garret Schenck Elementary School, Madison Memorial High School, and received his Bachelor's as well as his Master's degrees in education from the University of Maine at Orono. He did post graduate work at Indiana University and Michigan State University. He served in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Technician during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Goodwin worked as a teacher and principal for over 25 years including one year with the National Teachers Corps. During those years he served at various times, as a drama coach, volleyball, softball and girl’s basketball coach, as well as a participant in community theater productions. He originated one of the first student run television stations at the high school level. He was a Governor appointee to the Humanities and Public Policy Committee; a Director on the Board for Elderly Housing in Mystic, Connecticut; a Boy Scout Troop Leader; a member of the Oakfield, Maine fire department; a past President of the Madison Kiwanis Club; a counselor in Seton's Recovery Unit; he served on the Senior Spectrum Local Advisory Council and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1986. He loved being with his family, going to camp, fishing, golfing, growing vegetables, delivering meals on wheels, playing cribbage and volunteering. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Ruth Goodwin. He is survived by his children, Adam, Mark, Jody and Chris; granddaughter Alexandria; brother Clifton and wife Allison; great-granddaughter Mckenna; and three generations of nieces and nephews that he shared special times with. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Somerset Abbey in Madison, Maine Saturday May 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Burial for both Ruth and Hank will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
