WATERVILLE, MAINE—Hazel Grace Lane, 94, passed away at Oak Grove Center in Waterville, Maine on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, with family by her side.\r\n\r\nShe was born in Montville, Maine on September 19, 1922, the daughter of the late William and Lena (Brooks) Otis.\r\n\r\nHazel’s education began in Fairfield, Maine, and she graduated high school in Fairmont, West Virginia at the age of 16 years, after living in Ohio, Illinois, and Maine.\r\n\r\nShe was a published writer of poems, short stories, and music (Country & Western songs). Hazel was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Augusta, Maine, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a banquet cook at Colby College, and was a Christian with a strong belief in God.\r\n\r\nShe enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. Hazel was a Christian lady, giving and sharing with many, many friends both young and old.\r\n\r\nBesides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Daniel Lane; her siblings, Kenneth, Bill, Rodney, and Harold Otis, Lola Cilley and Ethel Carey; her daughter, Laura-Jean Lane; her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Bobby Lane; and her great granddaughters, Shauna Poirier and Avery-Jean Lane.\r\n\r\nHazel will be sadly missed by her brother, Kendall Worthley; her children, Leslie Lane, Linda Zinkovitch and her husband, John, Louella Poirier and her husband, Jim, Leroy Lane and his wife, Peggy, and Loretta Tisdale and her husband, Ben; her grandchildren, John A. Zinkovitch, Debra Gosselin, Diane Wallace, Tammy Nixon, Sheldon Lane, Melissa Poirier, Jim Poirier Jr., Michael Poirier, Steven Poirier, Ricky Lane, Darrell Lane, Jodi Lane, Misty Lane, Andrew Savage, Christopher Savage, Darren Savage, Erika Russell, Kathy Whitmore, and David Howard; and many great and great, great grandchildren. She has 88 descendants.\r\n\r\nA funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at Fairfield United Methodist Church, 37 Skowhegan Rd., Fairfield, Maine.
