Herbert Herb Orrin Morris, 91, of Augusta, Maine went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Bath, on July 22, 1919, the son of John and Harriett (Farnham) Morris. He was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1939. He served in the U. S. Army for 4 years during World War II. After serving his country he became employed by Central Maine Power Company where he retired after 39 years of service. Although he had no children of his own, he was a father figure to many, helping to raise his two nephews, Kenny and George. In his later years, he married the former Esther Burke Day, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. He was a true gentleman, with a kind and gentle spirit. He wanted for nothing, and appreciated everything. Those who knew him never heard him complain. He was a soft spoken, humble, and precious man, who truly was one of a kind. Herb enjoyed working on his farm, listening to hymns, and helping out his family. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Esther Morris; a sister, Nellie True; two brothers, Edgar Morris and Kenneth Morris Sr.; and step daughter, Lois Bailey. Herb is survived by his nephews, Ken Morris Jr. and wife Rosalie of Windsor, George Morris and wife Shelly of Augusta, John Morris of Belfast, Tom True of North Berwick, Tim True and wife Colleen of Chelsea; nieces, Harriet Morris and husband David Thum of Readfield, and Sylvia Brown and husband Fred of Augusta; and step children, Marie McLean and husband Everett of Oakland, Larry Day and wife Kathy of Fairfield, and Susan Bishop and husband John of Houlton; and several great nieces and great nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Augusta, Maine with Pastor Nancy Pais officiating.
