OAKLAND, MAINE—Howard W. Swett, of Oakland, Maine passed away suddenly at this home with his family by his side on Thursday, May 19, 2016.\r\n\r\nHe was born on July 2, 1934, the son of Merle Sr. and Gladys (Principato) Swett. He graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, Maine, class of 1952. \r\n\r\nHoward married Stella George in 1954, and together they raised three sons. He worked for Chevron Oil Company for 22 years, and also owned the Oakland Chevron Station for many years. He was also an Oakland Police Officer and worked for the Kennebec County Sheriff Department for 19 years. \r\n\r\nHoward was a member of the Messalonskee Lodge #113 AF&AM in Oakland, Maine, Oakland Lion’s Club, Waterville Elks Club, Waterville American Legion Post 5, and Oakland American Legion Post 51. Over his lifetime he made many special friends.\r\n\r\nHe was predeceased by parents; and many close friends and relatives.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Stella; three sons, Alan and wife Valerie of Waterville, Maine, Brian of Oakland, Maine, and Jeff and wife Mary of Oakland, Maine; three grandsons, Jason and wife Sue of Waterville, Maine, Justin and wife Liz of Ventura, Calif., and John and wife Jenny of Gardiner, Maine; four great grandchildren, Molly, Zoey, Jayla and Finn; his brother, Lowell and Anne of Oakland, Maine; a special sister-in-law, Frances Doyon; many special nieces and nephews; his best friends, Larry and Mackie Johnson and their family of Norridgewock, Maine; and the family dog, Bandit. \r\n\r\nAt his request there will be no funeral services\r\n\r\nA celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. this Saturday, May 28 at his home at 43 Libby Hill Road in Oakland, Maine. Family and friends are welcome.
