James B. Ratte, 75 of Fairfield, Maine passed away unexpectedly, Monday, February 28, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Waterville, Maine on July 29, 1935, the son of Joseph Ratte and Sophie (Rzesutek) Ratte, where he attended Waterville schools. On December 29, 1956, in the middle of a Noreaster, he married the former Sheila Peters, and shared 55 years side by side. Jim drove truck all his life, spending 25 years with Corbett Brothers, then retiring from hauling milk with West Lynn Creamery a few years ago. Jim was a very loving husband and a King of Dads. He always put everyone first before himself, and helped anyone and anything that landed on his doorstep. He truly loved to fish, hunt and spend time in his vegetable garden and raspberry patch. So many people benefited from his garden that was always just a little too big. Jim was a true, Mr. Fix It. If anything broke, you could count on him to get it going again. He had unlimited patience and was loved by all who knew him. After retirement, Jim always enjoyed the fun he had with the boys and the excursions to the North Country with his buddy Stanley Burrill. He looked so forward to these trips, never knowing where they would end up. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, John, Tommy and Leo; his sisters, Mary, Bernadette, Katie, Edith, Rose, Terry, and Rena. He is survived by his wife Sheila of 55 years; and daughter, Darlene, both of Fairfield; one sister, Ann, of Castine; many nieces and nephews; with one very special nephew and best friend, Bill Sadulsky of Winslow. A memorial service will be held at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with visiting hours from 9:00 to11:00 a.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or tell someone that you love them and share with them a big hug.
