OAKLAND, ME--James Robert Vintinner Sr. of Oakland, Maine passed away unexpectedly Tuesday Sept 25, 2018, from a fatal car accident. \r\n\r\nHe was born on August 11, 1958, at the Waterville Sister's Hospital. He is the son of Thomas James Vintinner and Ellen Marie (Spencer) Vintinner-Pelletier-Martin. He started School at the Fairfield Central Elementary and graduated from Lawrence High School with the class of 1976. He went into the United States Air Force in 1980-1990, where he became a Staff Sergeant and worked as an Airlift Aircraft Maintenance Technician. Jim proudly served his country and was very patriotic. He traveled from South Carolina where he married Debbie (Strickland) Grove and his son James Junior was born, and Alaska where his daughter Heather was born then to Oklahoma. He worked as a security guard at Thayer Hospital, and the Army Guard where he spent 2 years, 11 months and 2 days in Guatemala. His last job has been at Huhtamaki from 1995-2018, where he worked many jobs and has served on various committees.\r\n\r\nHe attended the Lutheran Church, Shawmut Chapel where he was baptized and married Donna, and his present church was Oaks United Methodist Church. He loved collecting food for the hungry, has taken Polar Bear dips, walked for a good cause and was fond of 'random acts of kindness' and was known for using the word: Boldness. Jim was fondly referred to as 'Big Jim' for his height, big voice, big sense of humor and big heart. He has been serving as the road commissioner for Pinewoods Trail for a second year. Jim was also a big New England Patriots fan.\r\n\r\nJim was predeceased by his Father, Thomas Vintinner; uncles on both sides of his family; and some special friends including his brother in law, Dana Gamblin; and sister in law, Michelle Vintinner.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his mother, Ellen Martin of Waterville, ME; his wife Donna of Oakland, ME; his brothers David of Auburn, ME, Darryl and wife Penny of Clinton, ME, Ray and his wife Trudy of Pittsfield, ME and Ralph of Belgrade, ME, Chad and wife Brandy of Pittsfield, ME, and Brad of Waterville, ME; his little sisters Debbie Vintinner of KY, and Dawna Grard of Waterville, ME, Tammy Ferland of Smithfield, ME and Jodilynn of Waterville, ME; his son James Vintinner Jr. of South Carolina; and daughter Heather Vintinner of Vermont; his stepson Brian Ames and wife Tammie of Fairfield, ME; his granddaughters Isabella and Madison Vintinner of MI; and grandsons Brandon and Sean Ames of Fairfield, ME; and so many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews on all sides of his family and extended family. Jim is also survived by his close friends, Bill and Tammy St. Amand and Cecil Dow.\r\n\r\n\r\nJim will have visiting hours at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St. in Fairfield, ME on Wednesday, October 3 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. He will have a Celebration of Life at the Waterville Elks on Thursday October 4 from 11am-2pm. Graveside services with military honors will be at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd. in Augusta, ME at 10 am on Friday, October 5.\r\n\r\nJim's family would like to thank Huhtamaki for all they are doing to help with these services, the kindness and donations of food and support, all the condolences blowing up Facebook and Messenger.
