Waterville, Maine-Joan M. Maheu, 78, of Waterville, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus in Waterville, Maine. She was born in Waterville, Maine on November 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward Frappier and Louise (Pelletier) Carrigan. Joan married Whitey Maheu on February 12, 1994. She worked at Hathaway Shirt Company until she retired, and also worked as a bartender at the Waterville Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a lifetime member and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post 1285, in Waterville, Maine. Joan and Whitey ran the weekly cribbage tournaments at the V.F.W. She loved playing cribbage, especially beating Whitey. She spent many Saturday’s at the V.F.W. making and selling hotdogs in which the proceeds went to charities. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, as well as a friend to many. She will be missed greatly. She was predeceased by a daughter, Terrie Jean; and husbands, Tommy Veilleux, and Whitey Maheu. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Moores and her husband Scott, Vickie Goldrup and her fiancé Kevin Ferrigan, and Lisa Coleman and her husband Louis; her brothers Junior Frappier and his wife Jackie, Joseph Carrigan and his wife Theresa, and Victor Carrigan; her grandchildren, Brian Moores and his wife Melissa, Christopher Gerry, Kimberly French and her husband Joel, Erika Curtis and her husband Frank, and Leticia, Alicia, and Savanah Coleman; her great grandchildren Mya, Julia, Kyla, Hailey, Lila, Deandray, Deontae, Dya, and Yunique; her special friends Polly Boothby, Pat Williams, and Randy Goldrup and Dale Macklin who were like the sons she never had; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the Waterville V.F.W., Dr. Neilson, Dr. Kassman, and special angel Kath C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to: the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1285, 51 Water Street, Waterville, ME 04901. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Life will be held at the V.F.W., 51 Water Street, Waterville, Maine, on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, from 4-6:30p.m. Burial will be held in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield, Maine.
