Joel L. Smith Obituary (1953 - 2018)

BERLIN, NH—Joel L. Smith, 65, formally of Maine, passed away on October 2, 2018. He was born in Rockland, ME on August 11, 1953, the son of Joseph W. and Arlene E. (Sproul) Smith. His father was the Deputy Warden of Maine State Prison, having worked there for 32 years. In his younger years, he lived in Thomaston, ME and graduated from Georges Valley High School, class of 1971. He served in the US Army and worked at Bath Iron Works in Bath, ME and Crowe Rope in Warren, ME. Some of his enjoyments included gymnastics, working in his workshop, muscle cars, lifting weights, and fishing. Joel also enjoyed sports, especially the New England Patriots. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph W. Smith who passed away in 1991. Joel will be missed by his loving mother, Arlene Smith of Waterville, ME; his sister, Jackie Smith Thomas of Mount Vernon, ME; and many friends.
