Upton, MA-Joyce M (Gale) Hamilton, 89, of Upton, MA, and formerly of Albion, ME, died April 3, 2014, at Webster Manor Nursing Home, where she had been receiving care since January. She was the wife of Richard S. Hamilton who died in 1987. Born in Bangor, ME on October 14, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel (Friend) Gale. She was raised in Bangor before moving to Hudson, MA in 1937. Additionally she lived in Centerville, RI; Albion, ME; and Tuscon, AZ, before moving to Upton 17 years ago. She was a 1942 graduate of Hudson High School. She worked briefly at Dennison Manufacturing, and supported her husband in their soda stand in Rhode Island and later their farm in Albion, ME. When asked what she did, she always replied that she was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and bridge player. She is survived by her children Verna Kosiba and her husband Richard of Upton, MA; Janice Curran and her husband Bill of N. Smithfield, RI, and Gary Hamilton and his wife Donna of Dayville, CT. She was the sister of the late Joan (Gale) James of Freedom, OK who passed away in 1985. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Visitation is from 10-11am on Wednesday, April 9, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St, Fairfield, ME. Calling hours will conclude with a funeral service at the funeral home at 11a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Bangor, ME.
