WATERVILLE, Maine - Kathaleen Naomi Ladd Turner passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan, Maine following a near life-long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born in Waterville, Maine on May 1, 1950, the daughter of Blaine K. and Madelyn (Brown) Ladd. Kathy attended Oakland, Maine schools, graduating from Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, Maine in 1968. She continued studies at Nasson College, Springvale, Maine where she earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology in 1972, following completion of resident training at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Mass. Following gradation she worked at Thayer Hospital, Waterville, Maine. As her illness advanced she did part-time laboratory work for the State of Maine and later served as a volunteer at then Brookside School (George Mitchell School) in Waterville, Maine. Kathy was an avid skier spending much of her youth on the slopes of Sugarloaf USA. During the summer she spent much time with her extended Ladd family at Salmon Lake, substituting waterskiing for her winter sport. During a break from studies, she did extensive traveling in Europe. She married Glenn Turner of Waterville, Maine in 1973 and together they had two daughters. Kathy was predeceased by a brother, Timothy Ladd in 2007: and her mother, in 2009. She is survived by her father, Blaine K. Ladd of Oakland, Maine; husband, Glenn of Waterville, Maine; daughters, Kristin Cronkite, her husband Jerod and daughter Maddison all of Rockport, Maine, and Melanie Sweet and her husband Chris of Searsmont, Maine; three nephews, Brooks, Spencer and Arthur Ladd and their children; several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine. There will be no visiting hours.
