Oakland-Kelvin A. Higgins Sr., 80, passed away on December 24, 2017, after a courageous fight with dementia with his loving family by his side.\r\n\r\nHe was born in Albion on October 13, 1937, the youngest of eight children of Albert and Lucy (Robinson) Higgins. Kelvin graduated from Besse High School in Albion in 1955. \r\n\r\nKelvin served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963, spending some time in Korea. He went on to later serve in the Nation Guard. After the military Kelvin worked for the Motor Supply Company until his retirement in 2006.\r\n\r\nOn December 23, 1960, he married Joy M. Waddell, they spent many years together and their greatest happiness was family and taking Sunday rides to the coast. \r\n\r\nKelvin was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Ralph, Ervin, and Guy; sisters, Helen, Cora, Ruby, and Beverly; and an infant son Elden Myles.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife Joy; son Kelvin A. Higgins Jr. and his wife Ann; grandson Quinn Higgins; sister in law Joan Porter; and many nieces and nephews. \r\n\r\nA funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30th at 1 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. A committal service will be held in the spring.
