Shawmut, Maine-Laura E. Bray, 99, of Shawmut, Maine, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at the home of her daughter, in Shawmut, Maine. She was born in Montville, Maine on July 24, 1914, the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Foster) Carter. She was a graduate of Danforth High School, class of 1932. On November 29, 1933, she married Robert Bray, and together shared many wonderful years together. He passed away on June 26, 1999. She was employed by the C. F. Hathaway Company in Waterville, Maine for 40 years as a stitcher, before retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Shawmut Chapel for 80 years. She served as a deaconess, superintendent of Sunday School, taught Sunday School, and also belonged to the Willing Workers group. She was also a member of the Rebekah’s #50, in Fairfield, Maine for over 50 years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, quilting, and doing other crafts. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Robert H. Bray in 1985, and Arnal Bray in 1973; two brothers, Hillman, and Mason Carter; a sister, Louella Fortin; grandchildren, Roxanne and Crystal Young, Amy Witham, and Paul, Rhonda, and David Bray; and a son-in-law, Raymond Witham. She is survived by her two children, Pamella Witham of Shawmut, Maine, and Oliver Bray and his wife Barbara of Norwich, CT; two brothers, Phillip Carter and Zalisco Carter both of Benton, Maine; seven grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 4-6 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m. at Shawmut Chapel, 39 Bray Ave., Shawmut, Maine. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield, Maine.
