Freedom, Maine-Lendell K. Chase, 70, of Freedom, Maine, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine. He was born in Washburn, Maine on November 3, 1941, son of the late Meredith Chase and Rose Marjorie Helstrom. He attended school in Norridgewock and Kingfield, Maine. He married the former Dorothy Baker on March 28, 1997. He was employed as a carpenter in his early years by Dead River Company, was a Barber in Pittsfield, Maine, and later owned and operated a Barber Shop in Kingfield, Maine for several years. Later, he sold life insurance for Metropolitan Life. He also was a self-employed drywall contractor for many years, and for several years was employed by Pepin Drywall. His last employment was as a self-employed truck driver. After retiring he still drove truck, and did carpentry work at the church. He was a member of the Freedom Congregational Church in Freedom, Maine. At an early age, Lendell had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his 1951 Cessna 170. He enjoyed building remote control model planes, and flew them often. He loved playing card games, especially cribbage with family and friends. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, spending time with family and friends, and telling a good joke. He was athletic and loved to roller skate. He grew up on a farm and developed a love for animals at an early age. He had a very special bond with his dog Precious. He was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Porter. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Chase of Freedom, Maine; his son Kent Chase of Kingfield, Maine; his daughter, Karen Chase and her companion David Byors of Marblehead, MA; his step-mother, Farrilyn Chase of Freeman; his step-children, Pamela Hutchison and her husband Allen of Canaan, Maine, Rhonda Porter and her husband David of Canaan, Maine, Gregory Holmes and his wife Lisa of Glenburn, Maine, Jeffrey Holmes of Glenburn, Maine, Mark Holmes and his wife Tammy of Vienna, Maine; his siblings, Kenric Charles and his wife Cindy of Freeman, Maine, Kentucky Gould and her husband Conley of Chesterville, Maine, Mike Chase and his wife Donna of Freeman, Maine, Jeff Chase and his wife Cindy of Skowhegan, Maine, Jerry Chase and his wife Sherry of Moscow, Maine, and Andrew Chase and his wife Tammy of Freeman, Maine; his two grandchildren Kelsey Enman and Sophie Enman; and several other wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the Freedom Congregational Church, Pleasant Street, Freedom, Maine, where friends and family are invited to visit from 1p.m. until the time of the funeral.
