WATERVILLE, MAINE--Leona Marie Villa, 88, went to be with the Lord following a short illness at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine on Friday, December 13, 2013. She was born in Chillicothe, Texas on April 3, 1925, the daughter of Charles Robert and Clovis (Palmer) Willis. On July 1, 1945, she married Henry Charles Villa. Her husband served in the military around the world where she worked for the Federal Civil Service as a legal secretary and court reporter until her retirement. For several years she had been actively involved in various charities and organizations around the state. Leona volunteered at the local food bank and in the gift shop at Inland Hospital. She also read to children at various facilities. She was an active member of the Kennebec Valley Baptist Church Widows Group, the Shorthand Writers of Maine, the Cushnoc Club of Augusta, Main e, the Augusta Nature Club, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). A long-time member of the local chapter of the Red Hatters, Leona also served as president and was secretary of the Central Maine Retired Federal Employees group. In recent years she was a patron of the Summer Music Theater of Brunswick, Maine. Leona was predeceased by her husband, Henry; and her daughter, Carla Villa. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Billie L. Chaffe of Texas; her son, Fr. Richard C. Villa, S.M., of Texas; her daughters, Sandra M. Kelly (Glen), of Kansas and Valda Durand (Tony) of Winslow, Maine; her grandchildren, Jon Calvin, Courtney Calvin and Jordan Calvin (Scarlett); and great grandchild, Stella Rose Calvin. Visiting hours will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21. Spring burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, P.O. Box 704, Waterville, ME 04903-0704.
