Linwood W. Greenleaf, 87, of Waterville, Maine died on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center-Thayer Campus, following a brief illness. He was born in Fairfield, Maine on November 25, 1923, the son of the late Wentworth Greenleaf and Madeline (Waldron) Carey. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1941, where he played football, and was one of the first to play on Keyes Field. On November 17, 1947, he married the former Freda H. Harris, she died on April 17, 2010. In his early years, he was employed by Wilson Packing Company in Waterville. Later, he became employed by Galahad Press in Fairfield as an offset printer before moving to Orlando, Florida. While living in Orlando, Florida, he was an avid golfer, and was the last charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 3496. They moved back to Maine in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Allison McLain and her husband Clarence of Waterville; his grandson, Kevin McLain and his wife Kim of Fairfield; his special great grandsons, Kyle and Keenan McLain of Fairfield; his sisters, Sandra Sanders and her husband Kenny of Fairfield, and Carole Ann Johnston of Clinton; his sister-in-law Betty Ross and her husband Dave of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank the Lindie family of Benton for all their help. A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.
