Clinton, Maine-Lizzie May Gray Hunter, 97, died on May 3, 2012 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus in Waterville, Maine, following a long illness. She was born in Burnham, Maine on November 17, 1914 the daughter of Frederick Gray, Sr., and Rose Holland Gray. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine. On July 29, 1934, she married A. Keith Hunter, with whom she was a devoted soul mate for 69 years until his passing in 2003. She was employed at C.F. Hathaway in Waterville, Maine for over 40 years, retiring in 1977. Lizzie deeply loved her family and friends. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens, spending time at camp in Greenville with family and friends, home interior decorating, crocheting and sewing, as she was an accomplished seamstress. Lizzie loved music and playing the piano and organ. She loved snowmobiling and tending the snowmobile clubhouse kitchen on countless weekends. She was renowned for her home cooking and the holiday meals she prepared for large family gatherings, seemingly with ease. Lizzie was a member of the Fireside Chapter 103, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Benton Grange, receiving a 70 year continuous membership certificate from the Maine State Grange in May, 2010. She was also a member of the Clinton Historical Society, the Clinton Senior Citizens, the Town and Country Trailriders Snowmobile Club, and the Maine Snowmobile Association. She was a member of the Brown Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton. Lizzie’s survived by her son Royce Hunter and his wife, Donna, grandchildren; Kelly Paquette and husband, David, Lori Chesley and husband, Gregory, Jennifer Alexander and husband Jeremey, Jeffery Hunter and special friend, Lisa Foster, great grandchildren, Holly, Marissa and Sarah Paquette, Keith and Hunter Chesley, Logan and Payton Alexander and Ashley Hunter; sisters- in-law Phyllis Hunter and Patricia Hunter; brother- in-law Roger Clifford and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Keith, brothers; Reginald Gray and Frederick Gray, Jr., sisters; Mildred Brown, Virginia Wood and Roberta Weeks. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm on Sunday, May 6, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Monday, May 7, at Brown Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton, Maine, with burial at the Greenlawn Rest Cemetery in Clinton, Maine immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Town and Country Trailriders, P.O. Box 23, Clinton, Me. 04927, or the Brown Memorial Methodist Church, Clinton, Me. 04927, or a charity of ones choice.
