UNITY, MAINE—Lieut. Col. Michael Koziupa, Air Force Ret., was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at age 98. He leaves his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Dr. Diana Koziupa; son-in-law, Ken Swanson; son, Raymond Koziupa; stepsons, Lloyd and Wayne Livingstone; and cousins, Michael Koziupa, wife Anna, and Michael’s dad, Mikola Koziupa. Michael enlisted in the Army as a private, and served three years. Later, he was called back into the military. He took a critical test, passed, and was accepted as an aviation cadet. There were studies and lessons at flying schools, then extensive training at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. He was assigned to 26th Photo Recon Squadron. Michael was right at home flying the P-38. He was a born military man and a natural pilot. His flying duties were in Japanese territory, island hopping over the vast southwest Pacific. Michael is dearly missed. A memorial service in his honor will take place Saturday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Quaker Hill Christian Church, Unity, ME. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests lending support to the Community Table or Open Door. Both offer sit-down community dinners the last full week of each month.
