Augusta- Nancy J. Kenniston, 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.\r\n\r\nNancy grew up in Waterville, where she attended local schools and received her BS in Business Administration at Thomas College. She proceeded on to an esteemed career in State Government serving as; Deputy Director of the Maine Division of Community Services 1971-1979; Director of the Division of Administrative Services of the Dept. of Transportation 1979-1981; Deputy Commissioner of Administration & Human Resources of the Dept. of Transportation 1981-1984; Direct of the Bureau of Human Resources from 1987-1997; and Acting Commissioner of Dept. of Administration 1990.\r\n\r\nShe enjoyed creating her intricate geometric abstract art and was an avid reader, particularly of publications related to current political and social issues.\r\n\r\nNancy is survived by her daughter Alexander Vafiades; brother Terry Kenniston and his wife Linda; sister Pat Davies and her husband John; two nieces; two nephews; and a grandniece.\r\n\r\nA graveside service will be held in the Spring for family and friends at Friends Cemetery in Fairfield, where Nancy will be laid to rest alongside her mother and father, Daphne and Malcolm Kenniston.
