Fairfield, Maine-Richard R. Dostie, 90, of Fairfield, Maine, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at a local healthcare facility. He was in Fairfield, Maine on December 6, 1921, the youngest of six children of Joseph and Marie Elizabeth Dostie. He attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary School, and following his graduation from Lawrence High School, he entered military service in the United States Army Infantry. He served in France during World War Two, and was captured and made prisoner of war. Upon his liberation and discharge from the Army, he attended and graduated from Farmington State Teachers’ College (now the University of Maine at Farmington). He married Patricia McGraw of Fairfield, Maine on August 9, 1947, and embarked on a career as an educator, teaching and/or serving as principal in Bangor, Maine, Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and for many years in Fairfield, Maine schools. He was also a musician who played bass viol and sang with the Al Corey Band, and with several other groups. He loved and cared for a long succession of pets. Mr. Dostie was predeceased by his parents; his five brothers and sisters; and by his wife Patricia who died in 2005. He is survived by his son, Richard M. Dostie of Fairfield, Maine; his brother-in-law and wife, Steve and Diann McGraw of Waterville, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children in Maine, Connecticut, California, and other States. His family also remembers with affection Mr. Dostie’s long-time housekeeper and caregiver, Karen Colford of Waterville, Maine. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine. Private interment services will be held at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield, Maine.
