Oakland, ME: Richard Paul Principato, 83, died Sunday January 3, 2016 at his Oakland, ME home surrounded by his family.\r\n\r\nHe was born in Oakland, ME on February 27, 1932 the son of Salvatore and Annie (Wentworth) Principato, Richard attended local schools, graduating from Williams High School, Class of 1952. \r\n\r\nIn 1953 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Willis A. Lee DL-4. He became a plank owner of the USS Willis A. Lee and was discharged in 1955. His brother Russell also served on the same ship at the same time. In later years, he enjoyed traveling to many Navy reunions with his wife, brother, and favorite (nephew), brother and sister in law Lowell and Annie Swett. Together they had many great times and lots of fun together. \r\n\r\nRichard worked many years at Keyes Fibre Company, retiring in 1993. He was co-owner of Principato and Swett TV and Appliance Store in Oakland, ME for many years. He enjoyed the time and many hours it took to rebuild his 1953 M-38A1 Jeep. Another of his hobbies he enjoyed was building light houses to sell.\r\n\r\nRichard was born and lived his whole life in the house his parents built. He was very proud of all his family. He loved spending time with his wife Maxine, whether it be working outdoors or going to town, they were always together. Richard always looked forward to getting his seed catalogs in the mail so he could plan his large garden which he shared with family and friends. He looked forward to going every day to the KMD McDonalds to have coffee with his many friends and visit with the workers.When ever asked, his favorite saying was “I’m taking it easy”.\r\n\r\nRichard was a member of the Waterville American Legion and a former member the Oakland Fire Department. \r\n\r\nThe family would like to thank Dr. Farrington and staff, the wonderful Healthreach Hospice workers, and the McDonalds crew for all their kindness. \r\n\r\nBesides his parents, he was predeceased by 3 sisters, Marion Hill, Gladys Swett, and Rose Principato, 2 brothers Leo Principato, and Russell Orlando Principato, his in-laws, Arthur and Ruth Graham, sister-in-law Bertha Ford, and brother-in-law Edward Graham. \r\n\r\nSurviving are his wife Maxine who he married May 22, 1954, his daughter Kim Jandreau and husband Richard of Sidney, ME, his son, Richard S. Principato and wife Tina of Oakland, ME, 6 grandchildren Sarah Hewett, Nathan Hewett, Lucus Principato, Eli Principato, Benjamin Jandreau and Tyler Jandreau. 3 great grandchildren, Daymion Leblanc, Briana Leblanc, and Wyatt Jandreau, his brother Russell Principato, brother and sister in law, Lowell and Annie Swett, several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his special group of friends and workers at the KMD McDonalds. \r\n \r\nThere will be no services at this time. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Oakland Fire Fighters Association P.O.
