SKOWHEGAN, ME- Roland George Constable, Sr., died at his home in Skowhegan, ME Friday, March 11, 2016 ending a two year struggle against throat cancer.\r\n\r\nRoland was born on June 21, 1943, the only son of George E. Constable, III. and Annie Beatrice (Tucker) Constable. He spent most of his youth on the family poultry farm, Sheltering Pines, in Unity, ME, where he was the big brother to four sisters. He attended the Church of Christ and was baptized at Ganderbrook Camp. Roland graduated from Unifree High School in 1961. He worked on the farm, played baseball, and embraced summers at the family cottage on Lake Winnecook, where he developed his passion for boating, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, horseshoes and enjoyed the company of his many cousins.\r\n\r\nAfter high school he married Edith Walker of Clinton, ME. Together, they had three children. In 1970, Roland married Sandra Bickford of Oakland, ME, and they also had three children. Roland's love of life was truly infectious, and he developed friendships that endured from childhood and continued to treasure new friendships which developed through his work and his years camping with his family at Abnaki Campground. He was employed on the family farm, at Scott Paper, Jay Paper Mill, and Sappi. He was able to retire shortly before his 60th birthday, and filled his leisure time with golfing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, motorcycling, competitive horseshoe tournaments, and being the Pye-Eyed Piper (his DJ persona), frequently with his grandson Christopher, and family activities.\r\n\t\r\nTwo years ago, Roland met Joann Donahue, who became his last love and who helped him maintain his love of life throughout the cancer treatments. It was with Joann that he attended church at the Shawmut Chapel and became a part of that caring community. He also greatly appreciated the love and support of his many caregivers and Hospice workers and his first wife, Edith.\r\n\t\r\nRoland is predeceased by his parents; his sister Linda Constable; his wife Sandra; and his son Bradley.\r\n\t\r\nHe is survived by his children, Tracy-Lynn and her husband Charles Stratton, Roland G. Constable, Jr., and his wife Kathleen, Troy Constable, Guy Constable and his wife Carol Oliver, Sara Palmer and her husband Michael Smith, his sisters Rosemary Pillsbury, Constance Constable, and Catherine Constable. His grandchildren, Kaylee and Cory Constable, Christopher and Damion Cyr, Caleb Palmer, Annie Caron, Nicholas and Nathan Brumback; Roland's great-grandchildren include Heidi Brumback, Troy Perri-Cyr, and Conner Constable.\r\n\t\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Somerset Humane Society, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME, 04976.\r\n\t\r\nVisiting hours will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street in Fairfield, ME. A funeral will be held the following day, Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Star in the West Masonic Hall, 327 Main Street in Unity, ME, 04988. A time of fellowship will follow.
