WATERVILLE, ME—Romeo F. Ouillette, 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, ME. Romeo was born in Fairfield Center, ME on May 30, 1925, the son of the late Benjamin and Louise Ouillette. His mother died when he was two years old and he was later raised by his loving stepmother, Mary (Patrie) Ouillette. He attended Fairfield schools and joined the U.S. Navy at age 19, serving on a dry dock in the South Pacific from 1944 through 1946. Romeo married Dorothy Hunt on April 29, 1950. They became parents of two children, Linda in 1951, and Steve in 1953. Romeo was employed in Waterville, ME by the community bus line, Montgomery Ward, Dead River Company, and Firestone. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing. He also was a fine wood craftsman, creating crafts and building furniture. Romeo also loved helping his neighbors whenever he was needed. Following retirement, he volunteered at the Muskie Center for many years. He loved to travel with the camper and went out west to many of the national parks, including the Grand Canyon and Denali in Alaska. Romeo is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Linda; his son, Steve and his wife, Chris; his grandchildren, Sare Curtis, and Kim and Jane Ouillette; his great granddaughter, Ella Curtis; and his step grandchildren, Adam, Marty, and Jeremy Maines and their families. The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Home for their excellent care and support for Romeo and his family. A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, 61 Pleasant Street, Waterville, ME, on Thursday, February 5 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service. Burial with military honors will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
