ALBION, MAINE—Samuel S. Cottle Jr., 81, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, of Lymphoma and dementia. Sam was born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 12, 1931, the son of the late Samuel S. and Genevieve H. (Courtney) Cottle Sr. He graduated from South Kingstown High School in Wakefield, Rhode Island, where he met his future wife, Gloria E. Irish. The couple had been married for 63 years. Sam was an owner and captain of two fishing boats during his younger years. Later in his life he worked in the insurance field. Sam's vocation since 1953 was the public preaching work of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was also a published author. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Capt. John Cottle; and his sister, Grace Beaudet. Sam is survived by his wife, Gloria E. (Irish) Cottle; his son, David James Cottle and his wife, Diane of Bar Harbor, Maine; his daughter, Colleen M. Stupfer and her husband, David Jon of Belfast, Maine; his grandson, Matthew Stupfer and his wife, Valerie of Frankfort, Maine; his granddaughter, Michelle Strain and her husband, Jonathan of Franklin, Pennsylvania; two great grandchildren, Tristan and Madison; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial talk will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Unity Rd., Albion, Maine. Private interment will be held at a later date.
