WINSLOW, MAINE—Stephen L. Dyer, Sr., 62, of Winslow, Maine, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home. The son of Grover and Mildred (Pettengill) Dyer, Steve was born in Augusta, Maine on March 26, 1951. He was an active duty Marine, serving his country in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his return to the States, Dyer enjoyed careers in photography and as a mechanic, eventually becoming a stay-at-home father. His pastimes included riding his motorcycle throughout the state, playing his guitars, and tinkering on small engines. He was predeceased by his father, Grover Dyer; and three sisters, Janet Farnsworth, and Rose Marie and June Dyer. Dyer is survived by his mother, Mildred Dyer, of Winthrop, Maine; his son, Stephen Dyer II and his companion, Amy Dennis, of Smithfield, Maine; his five sisters, Faith Mouradian of Arizona, Judy Cochran, of Livermore, Maine, Donna Dyer, of Manchester, Maine, Kathy Wadley, of Greene, Maine, and Angel Markham, of Belgrade, Maine; his two brothers, David Dyer and his wife, Linda, of Winthrop, Maine, and Michael Dyer, of Bath, Maine; his grandson, Stephen Dyer III, of Smithfield, Maine; his former wife, Patricia Dyer, of Belgrade, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his neighbor, Lee Couterier, for the many ways in which he helped Steve over the years. A celebration of Steve’s life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine. Committal with military honors will be at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery wall, Civic Center Dr., Augusta, Maine.
