Walter A. Wilson Jr. of Albion, Maine passed away on the 16th of January with his wife and son at his bedside. Walter was 67 years old. Walter was born in Bangor, Maine to Hilda and Walter Sr. on July 26, 1946. Walter’s family moved to Apopka, Florida when he was very young, but he always considered Maine home and never strayed from plans to return. Walter’s life always exhibited three strong principles: dedication to family, hard work, and self-assurance that he could learn and accomplish whatever life required. He lived a full life and positively impacted many. His dedication to family always present, his sons, Jim and Steven Wilson, have always felt fortunate and proud to call him Dad. Immediate or distant, he loved family and friends each with the same strength. Beginning with a warehouse job at Central Cigar in Florida and armed with no formal education, Walter’s work ethic and self-assured “learn-anything-necessary”-drive quickly transformed him into a sought-after corporate vice president. He served in senior and vice president roles for several retail agencies to include: Have-A-Tampa Cigars (south east), Leeds (Florida), Present Company (New York), Handy Dan/Handy City (across the south and Texas), and Channel Home Centers (New Jersey). After an early retirement, Walter and the love of his life, Linda, immediately bought land in Maine and fulfilled his life-long plan to return home to Maine; together they built their home in Albion. Walter’s many memberships and service to others include: Kiwanis Club, National Association of Accounting Professionals, National Association of Human Resource Management, Board of Directors and Treasurer for “The Town Line” newspaper, elected Member and Secretary for the Town of Albion Planning Board, and Chairperson/Elected Member for the Town of Albion Fire Station Committee. Walter was predeceased by his mother and father, Hilda and Walter Sr., many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his constant companion, Akela, his Great Pyrenees. Walter is survived by a loving family, fully aware of their fortune to have had him in their lives. They include his wife, Linda; his two sons, Jim and his wife, Jeanine, of Benbrook, TX; and Steven and his wife, Yolanda, of San Antonio, TX; his brother, Joel and his wife, Jean, of Orlando, FL. Grandchildren include Ryan, Alexa and Ian Wilson. Walter’s other survivors include his first wife, Shirley Kirk, of Peoria, AZ; an aunt and several cousins. Viewing and services will each be held at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine. Viewing will be Monday, January 20, from 2 - 4:00 and 6 - 8:00 PM. Services will be held Tuesday, January 21 at 1:00 PM. The family would like to thank the many friends who have reached out to assist and provide comfort. Additionally, the family cannot state strongly enough their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, aides, and Hospice folks of MaineGeneral Medical Center for their loving concern and care. They added greatly to Walter and his family’s comfort during the last few weeks.
