Winslow, MAINE – Worden Frank Hale, Jr., age 80, passed away at the Hospice unit at Togus Veterans Hospital on Saturday, March 16, 2013. He was born in Bellows Falls, Vermont on May 31, 1932, the son of Worden Hale, Sr. and Esther (Anderson) Hale. Worden graduated from Bellows Falls High School and attended Vermont School of Agriculture and later served two years in the Army from 1953 to 1955. Worden owned or worked on dairy farms for over 60 years and was an active member of Farm Bureau, in which he served in many roles over 40 years, including serving as a member of the county board of directors and as president and treasurer. Worden was also active in Maine Farm Days, hosting the event in 1976 and serving as president for several years. Worden also was a member of the American Legion, Grange, and Odd Fellows. Worden is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances (Keene) Hale originally of Buckfield, Maine; his sisters, Evelyn Truehart of Wernersville, Pennsylvania and Catherine Perlongo of Danville, New Hampshire; his five children, Clyde, Curtis, Eileen, George and Gregory; his twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Worden was predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert Hale. Visiting time will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 with Jon Olsen officiating at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St, Fairfield, Maine. The deceased will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, Maine at a later date. The family would like to thank the Togus Hospice team for the loving, compassionate and professional care Worden received in his final weeks. The team provided the encouragement and counsel for Worden to come to peace with his illness and to get the most of his remaining days.
